Several killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine as Siberian gas plant hit

Multiple people killed and dozens injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine, including in Kiev, Mykolaiv, Kramatorsk, and Sumy.

Several people have been killed and dozens injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine on Wednesday.

In Kiev, a woman was killed when a combat drone struck a multi-storey residential building. Three other residents, including children, were injured, according to the civil defence authorities.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that a total of 16 people were injured in Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital over the course of the day.

In the port city of Mykolaiv, at least two people were killed, and a further twelve injured in repeated Russian attacks.

The attacks targeted port facilities and warehouses where food is stored, officials said.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the attacks using drones and precision-guided weapons, but stated that only military depots were targeted and hit. It was not initially possible to independently verify the reports.

At least nine residents were injured in a Russian airstrike on the town of Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine.

The authorities reported that the town was hit by at least nine glide bombs.

In Sumy, in eastern Ukraine, three people were killed when a drone struck the car park of a shopping centre. A further 14 people were injured, according to a statement by the acting mayor, Artem Kobzar, on Telegram.

"The enemy carried out a treacherous attack at precisely the moment when the town's residents were on their way home from work to go shopping," the city's military administrator, Serhiy Kryvosheienko, wrote on Telegram.

The shopping centre was damaged, and numerous cars caught fire.

Reports: Ukraine hits gas plant in Siberia

According to media reports, the Ukrainian armed forces attacked and possibly damaged a distant target in Siberia using drones.

Ukrainian media reported that a gas condensation plant was attacked in Novy Urengoy, in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of western Siberia.

There were no officially confirmed details regarding the extent of the damage. The Ukrainian news agency UNIAN published unverifiable photos from Russian social media.

The governor of the district, Dmitry Artyukhov, confirmed the attack by combat drones and spoke of a fire caused by falling debris. According to his account, the approaching drones were shot down. "The situation is under control," he wrote.

Novy Urengoy is over 3,000 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. The company that was attacked is considered one of the region's most important gas infrastructure facilities.

For months, Ukraine has been attacking industrial and defence facilities, as well as refineries, on Russian territory in order to weaken the Russian military.

Kiev has developed long-range combat drones capable of striking targets several thousand kilometres away.
