Buckingham Palace paid tribute to American singer Dolly Parton on Wednesday as the Band of the Coldstream Guards performed her iconic song “9 To 5” during the Changing of the Guard ceremony.The Royal Family later shared footage of the performance on its official social media accounts, remembering Parton for her music as well as her charitable work.“Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always love you,” the post said.Parton died on Tuesday. Her nephew Bryan Seaver confirmed her passing in a video shared on her official Instagram account. Parton was 80. Her representatives later said she had died following a brief battle with cancer.Parton's Imagination Library was also highlighted in tributes from the Royal Family. The programme has provided free books to children for decades, becoming one of the singer's most prominent philanthropic projects.The Queen's Reading Room, a charity founded by Queen Camilla, also paid tribute to Parton, describing her as an advocate for reading and highlighting the scale of her work encouraging children to develop a love of books.“Today we remember and celebrate the unwavering advocate for the joy and importance of reading – the icon, Dolly Parton,” the charity said.King Charles and Queen Camilla were not at Buckingham Palace during Wednesday's ceremony as they were spending their annual summer break at Balmoral. The Union Jack, rather than the Royal Standard, was flying above the Palace.During the ceremony, Number 12 Company Irish Guards marched from Wellington Barracks with the Band of the Coldstream Guards to take over duty from the outgoing guard.Parton's death has prompted tributes from across the music and entertainment world. She had continued working despite health problems and had spoken publicly about her determination to keep creating shortly before her death.Parton's husband, Carl Dean, died aged 82 in March 2025.
