‘Tingling, numbness, pain’: Man recalls what it felt like to be struck by lightning

A Staten Island man in New York county survived being struck by lightning while walking to a dentist appointment, with doorbell camera footage capturing the moment the lightning flashed near him before he continued towards a house.Thomas Fahmy was walking along a rain-soaked pavement when the incident occurred. The viral footage shows him approaching a white picket fence as rain fell around him.As Fahmy walked towards the property, a sudden flash of lightning lit up the area. The bolt appeared to strike in his vicinity, briefly overwhelming the doorbell camera with a bright burst of light.Fahmy disappeared from view for a few moments after the flash. He then reappears and continues walking towards the property.He reaches the gate, opens it and walks up the garden path towards the house. He was carrying a black bag as he made his way to the entrance.Fahmy later described experiencing unusual sensations across his body after the lightning strike."Once the lightning bolt struck me, the initial sensations that I had throughout my whole body were completely unprecedented: tingling, numbness, pain; I just felt this burning sensation."Despite the incident, Fahmy said he did not suffer any burns. He said he underwent several examinations after the strike, but doctors found no burns on his body."No burns. I had multiple body exams; no burns at all. I went to church on Sunday to say thank you, God."Fahmy said he was grateful to have survived the incident. He later went to church on Sunday to thank God for what he described as another chance at life.The doorbell camera footage shows Fahmy continuing towards the property shortly after the flash of lightning.
