Iranian ship attacked near Strait of Hormuz: Iranian state media

An Iranian cargo ship was struck early Sunday, Iranian state media reported, as the U.S.-Iran conflict marches on.

Hossein Amir Teymoori, the governor of Qeshm, said an Iranian commercial container vessel was hit by an “unidentified projectile” near Hengam Island in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the IRNA News Agency .

The strike killed one crew member and wounded four others, IRNA reported. Hengam Island is located roughly 1.2 miles south of Qeshm Island, the latter of which is the largest island in the Persian Gulf.

The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations organization also reported a vessel being struck in the strait, adding that a fire broke out on board and local authorities are helping evacuate crew members.

The U.S. has not taken responsibility for the strike. The Hill has reached out to U.S. Central Command (Centcom) for comment.

The Middle Eastern conflict , in its seventh month, continues without any sign of a deal to end hostilities. Earlier this week, Iranian and American forces exchanged fire, with the former launching missiles at Navy warships.

The U.S. military responded by destroying five Iranian oil tankers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, per Centcom. The command said the Iranian regime “had used the tankers as part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC” and its proxies.

Iranian forces then launched a raid on an air base in Jordan overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The Royal Jordanian Air Force operates the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where U.S. personnel are stationed.

CBS News reported Thursday that the Iranian strikes damaged multiple American military aircraft, but President Trump denied that, telling NewsNation’s Robert Sherman the attack yielded “no damage” on assets.

Trump also predicted this week the war will end shortly after the November midterms, saying on Wednesday the Iranian regime “can’t hold out any longer.”

The president told reporters, “A negotiation could possibly happen, but it’s not something we’re looking at.”
