Two earthquakes jolt northwest Nepal within three hours; no casualties reported

Two earthquakes struck Nepal's northwestern Mugu district within three hours early Wednesday. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.According to Nepal's National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the first earthquake, measuring 4.5, struck at 1.51am, followed by a 4.2-magnitude tremor at 4.28am. Both had their epicentre around Kalai in Mugu district.National Center for Seismology (NCS) independently recorded both earthquakes, though it put the magnitude of the second at 4.0. The agency recorded the first quake at 1.36am IST at a depth of 81 km, around 159 km east of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.The second was recorded at 4.13am IST at a depth of 98km, about 166km east of Pithoragarh.The latest tremors came days after a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mustang district on September 8, followed by another measuring 4.0 in the same district on September 9.The earthquakes come as Nepal continues to recover from the devastating August 26 Bhote Koshi flash floods, which swept through the Rasuwa-Trishuli river system and several downstream districts. At least 1,403 bodies have been recovered, while 4,089 people remain on the official missing list, according to the latest Nepal Police update.
