Four flights diverted, 26 delayed amid rain & gusty winds in Patna

Patna: Incessant rain and gusty winds disrupted flight operations at Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Saturday with four flights diverted, 26 delayed and one cancelled, inconveniencing passengers and affecting subsequent services.IndiGo flight 6E-713 from Kolkata to Patna was diverted back to Kolkata after unsuccessful landing attempts. It landed in Kolkata at 1.10pm and later reached Patna at 4.56pm, against its scheduled arrival of 11.55am.IndiGo flight 6E-2373 from Delhi to Patna was diverted to Kolkata and reached Patna at 4.31pm, almost four hours behind schedule. Air India flight AI-2789 from Mumbai to Patna was diverted to Varanasi after several landing attempts and remained in the vicinity of Patna airport for almost two hours. It landed in Varanasi at 2.38pm and later reached Patna at 4.49pm.Air India Express flight IX-1510 from Delhi to Patna was also diverted to Varanasi before arriving in Patna at 5.25pm. The diversions and prolonged flight operations had a knock-on effect on other services.IndiGo flight 6E539 from Chennai to Patna remained in the vicinity of the airport for nearly an hour while attempting to land and made several go-arounds. Similar conditions affected five-six other flights.An ATC official said the diversions were prompted by bad weather and fluctuating winds. “Gusty conditions prevailed, with wind speed reaching around 25 knots, or about 46 kmph, at times. It would slow down and then pick up again, making landing conditions difficult,” the official said.According to airport data, 13 arrival and 13 departure flights were delayed.
