Lindsay Clancy's Last Words to Her 3 Kids Before Their Deaths Revealed

New details are coming to light in the Lindsay Clancy case.

During court proceedings for the 36-year-old—who is on trial for three counts of first-degree murder after admitting to killing her and then-husband Patrick Clancy 's kids Cora , 5, Dawson , 3 and Callan , 8 months, in 2023—forensic psychologist Dr. Kirk Heilbrun revealed the last words that the former labor and delivery nurse told her children before strangling them and trying to kill herself.

During his testimony Aug. 24, which was livestreamed by Associated Press , Heilbrun—who evaluated Lindsay for three days in April—testified that she killed her children as part of what he described as "altruistic filicide," saying she believed they would suffer without her and that killing them would allow them to be "together in heaven."

As she killed them, she told the children, according to Heilbrun, "Go to God, baby. Go to God."

The psychologist also revealed what Lindsay said to Patrick after he returned home and asked what she had done. According to Heilbrun, she replied, "I tried to kill myself."

Lindsay admitted to strangling her three children to death using an exercise band in January 2023 before attempting to take her own life by jumping out of a second-story window. She suffered a fall that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

While she has not denied killing her three kids, Lindsay has pleaded not guilty for criminal responsibility in their murders due to her state of mind during the incident, which her defense attorney Kevin Reddington is arguing was compromised due to postpartum psychosis.

Heilbrun said Lindsay's response to Patrick was inconsistent with psychosis, noting that someone experiencing hallucinations likely would have replied differently.

However, he also noted that Lindsay shared with him that she did hear a male voice about 18 minutes before the murders, which said, "Kill the kids so you can kill yourself."

"The way she described this as happening is that she heard a voice that she'd never heard before, experienced a hallucination and she's never experienced it since. But she only experienced it for the 18 minutes or so that it took to kill the children," Heilbrun testified. "To put it mildly, that would be a very, very unusual pattern or manifestation of how this kind of thing comes about. Very unusual."

Heilbrun told the court he diagnosed Lindsay with Bipolar II disorder. Saying she experienced both manic and depressive episodes, he admitted the diagnosis was difficult to reach "because of all the diagnoses in the records and all the symptoms that she experienced."

Heilbrun also brought up Lindsay's Catholic faith, which prompted Reddington to request a mistrial. Judge William Sullivan denied the motion.
