Is recalled Argentine beef connected to Trump’s beef import plan?

( NewsNation ) — Was a recall for nearly 30,000 pounds of raw Argentine beef related to President Trump’s plan to import more beef ?

In an effort to bring down beef prices , Trump suspended some tariffs in order to import 300,000 metric tons of ground beef from foreign sources.

The move has been opposed by cattle ranchers and led to rumors about the source of the meat .

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a Class I recall for the beef, which was distributed in Texas and Florida, after the shipments bypassed mandatory import reinspection.

The 29,628 pounds of raw, boneless beef were imported by Corte Argentino USA LLC and distributed to retailers and food service operators.

No illnesses have been connected to the shipment.

Routine import log audits done by federal inspectors showed that the beef entered without final federal clearance.

Meat imported to the U.S. goes through several steps, with a final FSIS reinspection of packaging, labeling, documentation, general condition and potential biological contamination.

The recall is related to that administrative failure rather than any biological pathogen or contamination.

Is the recalled beef connected to Trump’s plan?

Although rumors online have linked the two, suggesting that meat brought in under Trump’s plan has been recalled for safety reasons, there is no evidence to support those rumors.

Trump’s order halting tariffs on some foreign beef imports begins Sept. 1. The recall of Argentine beef was issued in early August.

Additionally, while many have speculated that Trump will be bringing in beef from Argentina, the White House has not specified which countries will have beef tariffs temporarily suspended. The imports could come from any number of countries from which the U.S. often imports beef.
