Strong waves & swell surge: Red alert issued in all coastal districts of Keralam

Kochi: Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Incois) has declared a red alert in all coastal districts of Keralam. The agency has warned that coastal areas of the state could experience strong waves and swell surge phenomenon.Incois has warned that there is a possibility of high waves ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 metres and sea swell along Kerala coast from 2.30am on Saturday to 2.30am on Monday. In coastal zones, especially in low-lying areas, there is a possibility of inundation and swell surge.A vigilance warning for high waves and the swell surge has been issued for Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli coasts of Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep coasts as well. Since there is a possibility of swell surge, fishermen and coastal residents should exercise extreme caution.Until Incois withdraws the warning, all activities, including beach-centred tourism, should be completely avoided. Fishing vessels should be safely tied and secured at the harbour. Maintaining a safe distance between vessels can avoid the risk of accidents due to collision.
