Zelensky to meet with Trump in New York this week

President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are meeting in New York City this week, the Ukrainian leader said Sunday.

“I just spoke with President Trump @POTUS. An important conversation, and we got through a lot. We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could change a lot. There is diplomatic momentum,” Zelensky wrote on social media Sunday.

Trump is set to give an address to the United Nations General Assembly meeting on Tuesday . He is also meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) on Monday.

“I thanked the President for Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Kyiv,” Zelensky said in his post, referencing a recent Ukraine trip by U.S. envoys Witkoff and Kushner.

“We went through the key details thoroughly, and they saw the situation in Ukraine firsthand. The peace track is our number one priority,” he added. “There are ideas for de-escalation steps and for addressing fundamental security issues – energy security, food security, and the protection of human life.”

Earlier this month, Witkoff said the U.S. was confident that trilateral talks would lead to a “good resolution” to the war in Ukraine following his and Kushner’s meeting with officials in Kyiv.

The war in Ukraine will hit the five-year mark in February, and the Trump administration has made a concerted push throughout the president’s second term to end the conflict, one of the major issues central to U.S. foreign policy at the moment.
