Isle of Man passport applications to move online

Applications for Isle of Man passports are set to move online this winter, in one of the biggest changes to the service in years.

The shift means most people will apply through the government website, using a digital system run by His Majesty's Passport Office which already handles millions of UK passport applications each year.

The move is intended to make the process quicker and more convenient, but it also comes with a major change for anyone whose passport is close to expiring.

The most immediate impact for customers is a price drop, with online applications costing £102, down from the current £115.50.

The five‑day Express service will be withdrawn when the online system launches, meaning people relying on a rapid turnaround will need to plan further ahead.

The government said paper forms would still be available for anyone who cannot use the website.

The Passport Office said it understood the change "may present a challenge for some customers", but said support would be offered in the coming month, including help at public workspaces in Douglas.

The update is to bring the island in line with Guernsey and Jersey, due to introduce the same online system at the same time.

Anyone with a passport nearing expiry is being urged to apply in good time, especially once the fast‑track option ends.
