Mumby motoring memorabilia museum's 'last lap' for charity funds
On Your Marques Model Car Museum in Mumby is reopening for the last time over the bank holiday weekend.
A closed motorsport memorabilia museum is reopening over the August bank holiday weekend for a "last lap" to raise money for charity.
The family-run On Your Marques Model Car Museum in Mumby, Lincolnshire, has been closed since 2023 due to the owners' ill health.
The museum is reopening from 10:00 until 16:00 BST on Saturday, Sunday and Monday to raise funds for the National Brain Appeal's Dementia Research Fund.
Created by Jane and Chris Dring, the museum houses more than 1,200 model cars and motorsport items, plus a cafe and a four-lane Scalextric circuit.
Jane passed away "unexpectedly" in 2012, the museum said, with Chris recently suffering from ill health.
Motoring journalist Steve Fowler said: "This is On Your Marques' last lap and we want it packed with people, laughter and Scalextric racing."
Steve, who is Jane and Chris' nephew, and other relatives are helping to reopen the museum over the weekend.
"I think Chris has got about 18,000 models in total," Fowler said, explaining that some are held in storage.
"He got his first model as an eight year old, that's on display.
"Everything from Formula One, Matchbox, Scalextric, his model planes, model motorbikes."
Steve said his uncle's childhood hobby grew so big over the years that he decided to turn it into a museum.
Discussing the 30ft Scalextric set, he said: "It's brilliant - you can spend hours on it.
"There's four lanes, so you can come down with a family and all grab a controller each.
"We've got a little timing board and you can get the quickest lap."
Steve said he would love people to visit to see the collection one final time.
"Come for the cars, stay for the Scalextric and cake, and help us support a brilliant cause," he added.
