Absorbing unqualified pvt school teachers will ruin students: Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Tuesday disapproved Assam's Congress-era law that allowed a large number of teachers engaged in private schools and charitable educational institutions to be appointed/absorbed in govt employment and barred the present govt from appointing or absorbing any person as a teacher in a school or college if he/she did not have requisite qualifications.Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, appearing for petitioner Rajesh Chauhan, told a bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that teachers engaged on an ad hoc basis in private schools were getting absorbed as teachers in govt service in utter disregard of prescribed educational qualifications. Kumar said as per an HC order, teachers who are not qualified would be given salary on a par with govt school teachers. Justice Bagchi asked whether that HC judgement had been challenged. Kumar said at the end the quality of education is suffering. The bench issued notice to the state govt and Centre and directed that "no teacher shall be appointed/absorbed in schools and colleges unless he/she possesses requisite qualifications under RTE Act, NCTE Act and UGC Act."The CJI said, "The future of the generations of students will be destroyed with these kinds of appointments.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
