Live updates: US-Venezuela oil deal sparks debate; Doug Ford set for Sunday show appearance

President Trump this weekend announced a new deal for the U.S. to acquire majority control of over 65 million barrels of Venezuelan oil, which has prompted a mixed response on the home front.

Senate Democrats slammed the deal, describing the move as putting private profits over the safety of U.S. soldiers. GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno (Ohio) countered by saying it “benefits both countries for generations.”

Meanwhile, following Trump’s order to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has traded barbs with the president many times, is scheduled to appear on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday morning. Trump’s name change move came amid a trade war between the U.S. and Canada.
