Air India Express Varanasi-Delhi flight makes precautionary landing in Lucknow after smoke alert

LUCKNOW: Air India Express flight IX 1253, operating from Varanasi to Delhi, made a precautionary landing at Lucknow airport on Thursday morning after the pilots received a smoke indication from the aircraft's aft cargo compartment.According to an official source, the pilots reported that the aircraft's sensors had detected smoke in the cargo bay. They subsequently requested permission to make a precautionary landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow.The aircraft landed safely at 8.52 am, following which the airport emergency response team reached the site and conducted a visual inspection. No smoke was observed during the inspection.The aircraft was parked at a designated stand at the airport. Passenger deplaning began at 9.02 am, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft. The passengers were deboarded to facilitate a detailed inspection of the aircraft.In a statement, Lucknow International Airport Limited (LIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said all 155 passengers and crew members on board were safe."Air India Express flight IX 1253 (Varanasi–Delhi) reported a smoke indication in the aft cargo compartment and made a precautionary landing at Lucknow Airport at 0852 hrs," the airport operator said."The aircraft landed safely, following which the airport emergency response team conducted a visual inspection. No smoke was observed," it added.The aircraft remained parked at the Lucknow airport bay after the passengers were deplaned.The cause of the smoke indication was not immediately known. A detailed inspection of the aircraft and its systems is expected to determine the reason for the alert.
