Nagpur horror: Woman’s car crashes into pavement, 5 injured; locals demand arrest

NAGPUR: A car rashly driven by a woman ploughed into the pavement, where children were playing near Gond Mohalla between Gittikhadan Chowk and Dinshaw factory late Tuesday night.Of the five critically injured, one is a two-year-old kid, Vanshika Kulmethe, and her uncle. Eyewitnesses said, the woman was driving under the influence of liquor. The accident triggered massive public outrage even as the injured battled for life at hospital.By midnight, over 500 residents of Gond Mohalla and adjoining areas laid siege to the Gittikhadan police station, demanding immediate arrest of the woman driver.The mob wrecked the woman’s car even as cops kept the woman driver hidden in the police station to shield her from public wrath. Senior officers rushed to the spot and heavy bandobast was deployed.The woman, reportedly from an affluent family, has been rounded up, though she is yet to be named accused, till reports last came in. The process of registering the offence is underway. Locals insisted she must be named in an FIR for rash driving and endangering lives. Police are investigating the case and assured strict action.
