40% work completed in UGD phase IV

TRICHY: Phase IV of the UGD project being implemented by Trichy Corporation to cover areas left out in earlier phases has gained pace, with 7,305 of the planned 16,500 house service connections provided so far.More than 40% of the pipeline installation has been completed, while nearly half of the proposed manholes had been installed as of October 2026. Of the 143.6-km UGD network planned under Phase IV, work has been completed on 60.3km.Seven of the nine lifting stations and 16 of the 17 pumping stations are also under construction in the coverage area.Areas left out in Phases II and III have been prioritised under Phase IV. These include densely populated stretches along Kuzhumani Road (Ward 8), Vayalur Road (Ward 25), parts of Karumandapam (Ward 55), Ponmalaipatti (Ward 46), and KK Nagar and K Sathanur in Wards 63, 64 and 65.The sewerage network will be connected to the 100 MLD-capacity STP at Panjapur.With the northeast monsoon approaching, residents have urged the civic body to restore roads, including residential streets damaged during house service connection work.
