Husband surrenders in advocate death case, levels allegations against in-laws in video

Hazaribag: Kushagra Rudra (31), the husband of deceased Jharkhand high court advocate Anushka Chakraborty (28) and a key accused in her death, surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Hazaribag on Thursday. Police said they would seek his remand for custodial interrogation.Anushka was found hanging inside her apartment in Hazaribag on Oct 22. Her family subsequently accused Rudra and his relatives of dowry-related harassment and murder. The case later came before the Jharkhand high court, which directed that the investigation be supervised by an officer of DSP rank.Hours before surrendering, Rudra released a video on social media denying all allegations against him and his family. In the video, he alleged that Anushka’s father had repeatedly interfered in his business affairs and pressured him to appoint him as a director in his company. He further claimed that his in-laws had made financial demands and that he had spent a substantial amount on their behalf.Rudra also alleged that marital discord arose over Anushka’s alleged closeness to a woman advocate during her stay in Ranchi. He claimed that the advocate had influenced Anushka’s personal and career decisions. He further alleged that Anushka had undergone an abortion in Ranchi and linked it to advice she had allegedly received to focus on her legal career before starting a family.The allegations made in the video have not been independently verified. No response from those named in the video was immediately available.Sadar SDPO Rupesh Kumar Singh confirmed Rudra’s surrender and said police had moved the court seeking his custody for questioning. An SIT constituted by Hazaribag SP Aman Kumar is probing the case. Police said all allegations and counter-allegations were being examined as part of the investigation.Anushka and Kushagra got married in 2024 and lived in Hazaribag city.
