Macron, Carney meet at French Atlantic territory

French President Emmanuel Macron Sunday welcomed Canada's PM Mark Carney to France's tiny North Atlantic territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, just off the Canadian coast. The leaders' meeting was being held at a time when both their countries were experiencing strained relations with the US. The archipelago is France's only remaining possession in North America.Macron was waiting for Carney as he stepped off his airplane and the two leaders greeted each other with a warm handshake and a long embrace in the bright sunshine. They were expected to confirm Canada's close relations with both France and the EU in a joint statement following a working lunch. "In a world in crisis, our friendship is a strength," Macron posted on X, above a video of him welcoming Carney at the airport.
