Signal from Tehran: Iran wants to return to the framework agreement

Iran is signaling readiness to end the war with the United States based on the framework agreement concluded in June, with conditions including an end to the war on all fronts, release of frozen assets, and an end to the US naval blockade.

The US and Iran signed a 14-point framework agreement in mid-June to pave the way for a final agreement on a permanent end to the war, with negotiations to be completed within an initial period of 60 days, which did not happen.

Tehran rejects new conditions and has no interest in an open-ended conflict, according to Israeli Iran expert Danny Citrinowicz.

Iran is signalling it is ready to end the war with the United States, based on the framework agreement concluded in June, according to its top security coordinator Mohsen Rezaee.

The secretary general of Iran's powerful National Security Council told Arab TV channel Al Jazeera on Saturday that conditions were an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen assets and an end to the US naval blockade. These points are included in the framework agreement with the US.

Rezaee also stated that Iran was seeking an end to the war between the Houthi militia in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

In mid-June, the US and Iran signed a 14-point framework agreement intended to pave the way for a final agreement on a permanent end to the war. The parties undertook to negotiate a final agreement within an initial period of 60 days. An extension was to be possible by mutual agreement. This did not happen.

The agreement also stipulated that Iran should do its utmost to ensure the safe and toll-free passage of merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days. This clause in particular sparked a new dispute between the US government and the Iranian leadership.

In return, the US was to end the naval blockade of Iranian ships and ports. Washington agreed to unfreeze Iranian assets. The specific procedures and amounts were to be determined during the subsequent negotiations.

Iran expert: Tehran rejects new conditions
