Two people arrested in connection with the death of a one-year-old girl in Warwickshire have been released on bail, police say.

It comes after emergency services were called to a house on Long Street, Atherstone, at about 11:50 BST on Friday to reports of a child in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short while later, police said.

A 19-year-old woman and a man aged 21 were then both arrested at the scene on suspicion of child neglect.

Later the pair were further arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child, said Warwickshire Police.

Det Ch Insp Martyn Kendall said: "This tragic death has understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern in the local community.

"The two suspects arrested have now been bailed with strict conditions."

The force said officers were waiting for a post-mortem examination to be carried out to help shed more light on the circumstances leading up to her death.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the force.
