Two-day watch on Buxa tigress before capture call
Assam and Bengal forest teams to monitor Buxa tigress in Raimona NP after livestock kills; capture decision in 2 days as compensation begins.
Kolkata: Following a series of livestock kills in Assam’s Rajendrapur village, the forest departments of Assam and Bengal have decided to take a call on the capture of the Buxa tigress after monitoring her movement for two days. The tigress, brought to Buxa Tiger Reserve from Bihar’s Valmiki, has moved into Assam’s Raimona National Park.Since Saturday night, the tigress has killed three domestic pigs and four piglets in the village, said sources.Officials from the two states held a meeting on Tuesday afternoon and visited the sites where the livestock were killed. The teams subsequently decided to monitor the big cat’s movement for the next couple of days before taking a call on whether it needs to be captured. “If it continues to stay in the village and carry on livestock lifting, we will have to take a call on capturing it,” an official said. The Assam forest department has initiated the process of compensating villagers for their losses. Rajendrapur village headman Mrigendra Narzari said villagers had approached senior forest officials and demanded compensation. The tigress is believed to be present at a spot around five to six kilometres from Manas Tiger Reserve and approximately 30 kilometres from the forests of Bhutan. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Kolkata | Silver Rate in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata | Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Petrol Price in Kolkata | Diesel Price in Kolkata | CNG Price in Kolkata | LPG Price in KolkataStay updated with the latest Kolkata news.
