Prince Harry says it is 'great' to be back in UK after six years in US

The Duke of Sussex has said it feels "great" to be back in Britain after spending six years living in California.

He told Canadian network CTV: "It's been great. It's been great to be back on British soil. The kids are happy in school and it gives me a chance to be able to really focus on the Invictus Games in Birmingham in July next year."

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior royals and began a new life in the US in 2020, before returning to live in Britain last month.

It is thought the family are basing themselves at a private property outside of London in the Cotswolds area.

The couple's children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, had to be moved to a different school only days after they started over security concerns about the school run.

It is understood that the Sussexes' private security team had raised concerns about the distance and heavy traffic on the route to the school .

Harry and Meghan's return to the UK has been marked by tensions with the Royal Family.

Meghan has largely stayed out of the public eye, with few public appearances.

Harry has carried out several public engagements linked to his work with the Invictus Games.

Last week, he visited a school in Birmingham to launch an education programme inspired by the games , where he played pickleball with pupils and took part in a science lesson on prosthetic design.

The games will take place in Birmingham from 10 to 17 July next year, with 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 nations expected to compete in 12 adaptive sports.

Harry spoke to CTV after completing a skydive in Toronto to honour a promise to a 102-year-old World War Two veteran and raise awareness of military charities.

Asked what had prompted the family's return to the UK , Harry said there were "lots of reasons" but did not elaborate.

The couple were reportedly surprised by a letter authorised by the King which reiterated that they are private citizens and set out guidance to senior government and military figures on how they should be treated.

Prince Harry and King Charles have had a strained relationship since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior working royals and moved to the US.

Meanwhile, the Sussexes are waiting to hear whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security in the UK.

The committee which oversees royal and VIP security, Ravec, is set to reconsider the family's level of police protection now that they are full-time residents rather than visitors.
