Trans-border narco-terror suspect flees NCB custody in Jammu

JAMMU: An alleged member of a trans-border narco-terror module escaped from the custody of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu Sunday night, prompting police and the bureau to launch a massive manhunt to nab him.“The details of how Aqib Bashir escaped from custody are unclear... Police and other security agencies have intensified frisking and vehicle checks at key entry and exit points across the region,” an official said.Bashir, from Pulwama district‘s Kakapora, was arrested with 522 grams of heroin on Sept 3, when an NCB team intercepted a Jammu-bound bus coming from Punjab at new bus stand in Samba. NCB in its statement on Sept 5 claimed to have exposed a twin-route narco-trail in J&K: one originating from across the Pakistan border and another operating through Punjab–J&K corridor.On Feb 18, 2026, two Pakistani nationals, along with a local gangster, fled a juvenile home in Ranbir Singh Pura. The trio, however, was arrested within 20 hours near Ambala railway station in Haryana while heading for Nepal.On March 22, 2024, narcotics smuggler Balraj Singh, from Amritsar, escaped from police custody in Jammu.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
