136 trekkers, mountaineers stranded on Uttarakhand’s high-altitude routes; SDRF rescues 5 from Kalindi Trek

UTTARKASHI: A total of 136 mountaineers, trekkers and support staff are currently on various expeditions and trekking routes across the district’s high-altitude Himalayan regions. The group includes six foreign nationals and 130 Indians.District Disaster Management Officer Shardul Gusain said that after an improvement in the weather on Monday, a helicopter rescue operation was launched for 46 people stranded at Kalindi Pass and Auden’s Col.He said 18 people, including five trekkers from Bengaluru and 13 support staff, are at Kalindi Pass, while 28 people, including five Indian trekkers and 23 support staff, are at Auden’s Col. All 46 are currently at their respective base camps on the two routes.Gusain said the remaining people are on other trekking routes and are safe at their respective base camps.At Mount Sudarshan, there are seven people, including four foreign nationals and three support staff. Mount Bhagirathi-II (Army) has 20 people, including 10 climbers and 10 support staff. Mount Bhagirathi-II has nine people, including six members and three support staff. Mount Jogin-I has seven people, including two members and five support staff.Mount Shivling has five people, including two foreign nationals and three support staff, while the Mount Shivling return team has three support staff. Mount Satopanth has eight people, including five members and three support staff. Shrikanth Peak (6,133 metres) has 18 people, including 16 members and two guides.The District Disaster Management Department team is continuing to monitor the situation and carry out relief and rescue operations.Five rescued from Kalindi TrekAn SDRF rescue operation is under way on the Kalindi Trek in Uttarkashi district, with five people rescued safely so far:Vikram, 46, from DelhiSoling Paul, 71, from DehradunNishant, 20, from DelhiKirti Raj Chauhan, 56, from BengaluruPreeti Chauhan, 51, from BengaluruThe SDRF’s specialised high-altitude rescue team is conducting continuous rescue and reconnaissance operations in the rugged terrain of the Kalindi Trek, particularly around Woodncall.In view of the prevailing conditions in the area, additional rescue resources and personnel are being deployed to the site as required.Stay updated with the latest Dehradun news.
