Ghee, refined oil in her bag: Woman ‘caught stealing’ at Noida DLF Mall, video emerges

NOIDA: A video showing a woman being escorted out of a store at DLF Mall of India in Sector 18 after she was allegedly accused of stealing ghee and refined cooking oil has gone viral on social media. Police and the mall management, however, have not confirmed that the woman stole any items and said she had paid for the products.The video, which is around 30 seconds long, shows two female security guards stopping a woman inside the store and taking her away. The woman can be seen covering her face as she walks out of the premises. During the incident, a store employee can be heard accusing her of stealing goods.Several claims accompanying the video on social media allege that the woman had been visiting the store for around a month and had allegedly taken ghee and refined oil on multiple occasions without paying. Some posts also claim that her activities had been captured on the store’s CCTV cameras.However, no CCTV footage supporting these allegations has been shared along with the viral video. The video itself also does not show the woman stealing any item or leaving the store without making a payment.Following the circulation of the video, information was sought from Sector 20 police. Police said their preliminary inquiry found that the woman had paid for the items she had taken from the store. The mall management also conveyed the same information to the police, officials said.“The woman had paid for the items. The allegations being made on social media have not been established,” police said.The video has triggered a range of reactions on social media, with several users sharing and commenting on the incident. It has reportedly been shared by more than 100 people.Police said the footage currently establishes only that the woman was stopped by security personnel and that a store employee accused her of theft. The circumstances in which the woman was stopped and what transpired inside the store cannot be conclusively determined from the viral video alone.Officials said claims made on social media should not be treated as established facts unless supported by evidence. Police also said that neither the mall nor the store management has submitted a formal complaint regarding theft in connection with the incident so far.Police are examining the available information and other aspects of the incident.
