'Abused, thrashed with sticks': How mother’s land sale turned sons against parents in Pune

PUNE: A 65-year-old farmer and his ailing wife were allegedly abused and beaten with wooden sticks by their two sons in Maharashtra's Pune district following a dispute over the sale of land owned by the woman.The incident took place on August 30 in Indapur when the elderly couple had stepped out for an evening walk, police said.According to police, the couple's two sons arrived at the spot in a car and allegedly began abusing their parents over the sale of a parcel of land belonging to their mother. The argument soon turned violent, with the two men allegedly attacking the couple with wooden sticks.The farmer suffered injuries to his face, back, thighs and left shoulder, while his wife was injured on her right wrist and waist.Police said the accused also allegedly threatened the couple with serious consequences if they did not cancel the land deal.Passersby alerted the police, following which a team rushed to the spot and took the injured couple to a hospital.
