Tata Sons, which sits at the centre of the Tata Group and owns stakes in companies ranging from Tata Consultancy Services and Tata Motors to Air India and Jaguar Land Rover, is facing one of the worst boardroom disputes in its 158-year history.The company’s leadership is now openly split with its largest shareholder Tata Trusts – an umbrella group of charitable trusts that collectively own about 66% stake in Tata Sons – over key decisions. Two of those trusts, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) and Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT), together hold about 51.5% stake.
