New rooftop bar plan to boost Hull's Humber Street Gallery
The proposed improvements are aimed at attracting more visitors to Hull's Humber Street Gallery.
A Hull art gallery has submitted plans for a transformation to help improve accessibility and attract more visitors.
Humber Street Gallery, which opened in 2017, has submitted plans for a new lift, expanded rooftop bar area and changes to its frontage.
The gallery's exhibition, office and workshop spaces will also be updated in the plans submitted to Hull City Council.
Dave McLeavy, CEO of the gallery, said: "Ultimately we want this development to make the gallery more welcoming to everyone."
He said the gallery had been working with the Hull Access Group to ensure it "caters effectively" to wheelchair users, neurodivergent visitors and people with visual or hearing impairments.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), the project is dependent on the gallery securing funding from Arts Council England.
McLeavy said the improvements were "part of a commitment to a long-term vision" for the wider Fruit Market area, which included independent shops and eateries as well as a theatre which opened in May .
Discussing the area, which has undergone regeneration in the last decade, Hull City Council leader Mike Ross said: "It is a part of Hull enjoyed by local residents that undeniably helps draw visitors from much further afield as well."
