Police head constable Nitin shot dead by son at his Chandigarh residence

CHANDIGARH: A Chandigarh Police head constable was found dead with a gunshot injury to his head at his government accommodation in Sector 22 on Friday morning, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Deceased son Arman is the main suspect behind the murder. Police rounded up Arman and interrogating him.The deceased was identified as Nitin, who was posted in the Accounts Branch at the Chandigarh police headquarters in Sector 9. His wife is also posted as an ASI with Chandigarh police.According to preliminary information, Nitin, his wife and their son were present at the house when the incident took place. Around 7 am, the head constable’s wife reportedly went to the terrace and raised an alarm, following which neighbours gathered at the spot.When people entered the house, Nitin was found lying on a bed in a pool of blood. He had sustained a serious gunshot injury to his head. Police said the circumstances leading to the firing were yet to be established.A country-made pistol was recovered from the spot. Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning family members, including the couple’s son, as part of the investigation.On receiving information, Chandigarh Police SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, SP Crime Anurag Daru and station house officers of police stations under the Central Division reached the spot. The officers inspected the government accommodation and the scene of the incident.Police are investigating whether the firing was accidental, self-inflicted or involved any other circumstances.
