Attorneys representing President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner have sent a letter to Vanity Fair and Condé Nast over allegations published in an article on Thursday calling them “false” and “defamatory.”

“We formally put Vanity Fair and Condé Nast on notice regarding the false and defamatory allegations published about our client, Jared Kushner,” wrote Chad Mizelle, former chief of staff of the U.S. Department of Justice, in a post on social platform X . “Serious questions are now being raised about the credibility of this reporting, including by independent journalists.”

Vanity Fair published an excerpt from a book by investigative journalist Matthew Cole titled “Princes and Thieves: Jared Kushner and Mohamed bin Zayed’s Secret Plot to Remake the Middle East .” The excerpt alleged Kushner’s hacked phone revealed his secret negotiations which include millions of dollars in transfers.

“Despite repeated requests, the author has failed to produce a single bank statement, wire transfer record, account number, or other verifiable evidence supporting these extraordinary accusations,” Mizelle said in his post with a copy of the letter attached.

“We have seen no indication that Vanity Fair conducted any independent verification of these claims before publishing them,” he added.

The letter signed says the accusations listed from the excerpt are “as false as” they are “outrageous” and since these allegations “charge our client with committing serious crimes, they are defamatory per se.”

The Hill has reached out to Clare for a copy of the letter and a comment.

The letter called for Vanity Fair to immediately remove the excerpt from its website and every other platform. It also asks the outlet to preserve records related to the publishing of the excerpt.

Earlier this month, CNN published a report alleging Kushner’s private equity firm had ties to a company heavily involved in Israel’s military. Kushner denied those allegations calling it a “a deeply misleading story.”

Kushner has served as a U.S. special envoy throughout Trump’s second term, playing an important role in leading peace talks between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas, as well as with Ukraine and Russia .
