President Trump speaks with reporters before departing on Marine One from the South Lawn of the White House, Oct. 23, 2026, in Washington.

President Trump said he did not speak to Elon Musk about the tech leader’s decision to restrict Starlink access for Ukraine but warned he will do so if access is not restored.

“I have not spoken to him,” Trump told reporters on the White House South Lawn. “I might have to, but I have not. I have heard it was fixed. If it’s not, I’ll speak to him.”

Starlink has proven to be a major tool for Ukraine to defend itself from missile and drone attacks from Russia.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Trump called Musk on Wednesday to ask that he remove restrictions on Starshield, the military-grade version of Starlink.

Officials told the outlet that Trump aired his frustrations to Musk that the system’s speeds were still capped.

The Journal’s reporting on Thursday came after the outlet reported on Tuesday that Musk directed the shutdown.

Trump did not say Thursday that he called on Musk to restore Starlink for Ukraine.

“Well, I don’t want to say, but I know it was a very interesting situation,” the president told reporters. “I don’t want to comment one way or the other.”
