Channel Islands ferry service stays suspended after engine issue

A passenger ferry service between Jersey and Guernsey will remain suspended after an engine problem.

Operator Islands Unlimited, which runs a daily inter-island foot passenger service, said the MV San Pawl's starboard main engine had a "major failure".

The company announced on Friday services would not run until further notice while engineers carried out a full assessment of the vessel and worked to establish the extent of the fault.

In an update on social media, it said "all passenger services scheduled up to and including 10 September have been cancelled" and it would confirm later whether future sailings could operate or if there would be additional cancellations.

The MV San Pawl successfully completed trials, in May to test whether it could also operate services to Alderney.

Islands Unlimited said the suspension was introduced to ensure the safety of passengers, crew and the vessel.

It apologised and thanked people for their "patience and understanding", adding every affected booking would receive a full refund.

It said: "We sincerely apologise for the disruption and uncertainty this situation is causing.

"Our team is working continuously to resolve the issue and restore services safely and reliably."
