KPSC job scam: Bengaluru court denies bail to IAS officer Gyanendra Gangwar despite cancer treatment plea

BENGALURU: A local court in Bengaluru Friday rejected the bail petition of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, 41, arrested and imprisoned in the alleged job for cash scam at Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).On Tuesday, the same court had turned down the bail petition of another accused in the case-Basavaraj Kannale.Gyanendra's counsel had argued that the suspended IAS officer is suffering from testicular cancer and needs rest."Gyanendra is a survivor of testicular cancer undergone two surgeries and still under going chemotherapy. Also, he suffers from life threatening medical conditions and high blood pressure, asthma and chronic liver condition. The MRI scan conducted at Victoria hospital on September 3 revealed severe lumbar spinal degeneration in L3-L4 and L4-L5 regions, for which doctors have advised immediate spinal surgery and complete bed rest," counsel noted.However, public prosecutor Bhagyalakshmi KL had objected to the petition stating accused is an IAS officer and could threaten the witnesses besides tampering the investigation."Gyanendra, an influential person, is arraigned as accused number five in the case and if bail is granted he will influence the further investigation. CID police has identified the place where Gyanendra had given question papers to another accused Basavaraj Kannale; also, police have discovered that Xiamoi Tab used for the commission of offence has been destroyed," Bhagyalakshmi said.She further argued, "The accused Basavaraj Kannale had collected the money from the candidates by way of deposit through Om Lakshmi Souharda Co-operative Society Ltd and through one Balu reddy. Thereafter he used the said money for his personal use and also transferred the said money to Bhima Jewellers situated at Commercial Street, Bengaluru for the purpose of purchasing gold jewels by Gyanendra.""CID police have seized gold jewelleries and investigating further regarding there is remaining golden ornaments if concealed by Gyanendra. Also, police has identified the person who assisted Basavaraj Kannale for the com mission of alleged offence has been identified and investigation is going on. Police has seized NVR (Net work Video recording) regarding Kannale visiting Gyanendra's house," public prosecutor added.Bhagyalakshmi further argued, "The investigation regarding forensic analysis of digital equipments seized is still pending.
