Margaret Qualley wore 'barefoot sandals' on the red carpet. Are these even shoes?

It's been a rocky few months for Margaret Qualley, but she put her best — and basically bare — foot forward at The Dog Stars premiere.

The actor turned heads at the premiere of the Ridley Scott film in London on Thursday, arriving in a fringed black Chanel dress and a pair of the fashion house's much-discussed "barefoot sandals."

Calling them sandals may be generous. The unusual design consists of a leather heel cap secured around the ankle, leaving the rest of Qualley's foot — including her soles and toes — completely exposed to the raw, red carpet elements.

"Calling it a shoe is too much," wrote one X user.

"OK, but the Margaret Qualley barefoot shoes are kinda horrible?" read another X comment .

There's already a dupe — one creator turned black face masks into her own toe-baring sandals.

The shoes debuted as part of Matthieu Blazy's Chanel Resort 2027 collection in April and immediately sparked strong opinions. (Not many were flattering.) The New York Times described the concept as " irrational, nonsensical luxury ," while Vogue called the unconventional footwear "freaky."

Now Qualley, a Chanel ambassador, appears to be the first celebrity brave enough to take the so-called "non-shoe" from the runway to the red carpet. She completed the look with diamond earrings, loose waves and a dark manicure and, yes, a pedicure. That's particularly important when one's toes are essentially the main accessory.

The premiere marked one of Qualley's most prominent public appearances since news broke in July that she and husband Jack Antonoff had separated after nearly three years of marriage . At the time, a representative for the actor pushed back on speculation surrounding the breakup, saying there were "no trust issues" and "no infidelity."

If Qualley was hoping to divert attention from her ring finger, the toe-baring look certainly gave everyone somewhere else to look.

The Dog Stars is a post-apocalyptic thriller that also stars Jacob Elordi as a young pilot who ventures beyond his isolated homestead after receiving a mysterious radio transmission. It's in theaters on Friday, Aug. 28.
