Thane Police Sub-Inspector Killed in Attack by History-Sheeter

Thane: A 56-year-old police sub-inspector was allegedly fatally attacked by a history-sheeter during a late-night patrol in Pokhran 2 after the accused was confronted for creating a nuisance in a public place, police said.The incident occurred minutes before Friday midnight when a patrolling team, including PSI Kisan Bhoir, reached the area after noticing a commotion near a paan stall. The officers found the accused, identified as Raju Valmiki, drinking alcohol near the shop.When the police team attempted to move him away from the spot and frisk him, Valmiki allegedly became violent and attacked Bhoir before trying to flee.“The accused got violent when our team tried to take him to the police van. He attacked Bhoir and fled, with the officers chasing him. When he realised the police were closing in, he hid behind a stationary bus and attacked Bhoir with a cement block as the officer tried to apprehend him,” said Sunil Warude, senior inspector at Chitalsar police station.The police eventually overpowered Valmiki, while the severely injured Bhoir was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was declared dead on arrival.Police have registered a murder case and other offences against Valmiki, who has previous theft cases against him.
