Trump says Norway ‘sucks’ after Nobel loss

President Trump declared on Sunday that Norway “sucks” after he was not selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The Norway-based selection committee honored Navi Pillay, a former International Criminal Court (ICC) judge, instead.

“I said to our great first lady, ‘First lady, I get the Nobel Prize in two weeks, and it’ll be an honor,’” Trump said while rallying in Michigan . “You know, I feel much better about saving all those lives. How about India and Pakistan? I stopped them from fighting. They shot down 11 planes.”

“The prime minister of Pakistan said, ‘President Trump has saved at least 30 million lives.’ So I said, ‘First lady, first lady, it’ll be a great honor to get the Nobel Peace Prize next week when they announce it,’ and then I sort of forgot about it because I am busy,” he continued. “And it was announced, and it was gotten by a woman that nobody ever heard of.”

“I said, ‘What about me? Do they do two of them?’ Think of it. I settled, so I’m not in love with Norway,” the president stated. “Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a s—house country, actually.”

“Now it’s crazy what’s going on out there. It’s called the world of politics,” he concluded.

The president has openly coveted the award . Last year’s prize winner, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, presented the award to him in Washington.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is responsible for selecting each year’s peace prize recipient, clarified that Machado’s gift to Trump was not an official transfer of her award to him.

Trump stated earlier this month his belief that he “should have won” the Nobel Peace Prize, adding in a Truth Social post that “no one ever heard of [Pillay] other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel.”

The Norwegian Nobel Committee selected Pillay this year for her work “in ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are prosecuted,” the committee wrote in a press release .

In addition to her time on the ICC, Pillay served as a United Nations high commissioner for human rights and was the first nonwhite woman in South Africa to establish her own law practice. She recently chaired a U.N. commission that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza .
