Guernsey prepares for bank holiday weekend getaway rush

About 18,000 passengers are expected to pass through Guernsey's airport and harbour over the bank holiday weekend, the island's ports bosses have said.

Guernsey Ports said it was preparing for one of its busiest weekends of the year with 10,000 passengers expected to use the airport between Friday and Monday and a further 8,000 going through St Peter Port Harbour.

Airport director Richard Thomasson advised people to plan ahead and ensure they arrived in good time.

Harbour master James Way said the team there would work closely with ferry operators to keep passengers moving "safely and efficiently", adding strong winds forecast for Saturday and Monday could affect some sailings.

Travellers using ferry services have been advised to check the latest sailing information with their operator before setting off, while airport passengers have been encouraged to check airline guidance and flight updates.

Thomasson added airport passengers on early morning departures with Aurigny could use the airline's twilight check-in service, which allowed them to drop luggage off between 15:00 and 20:00 BST the day before their flight.
