Dehradun school teacher sacked after student alleges molestation

DEHRADUN: A private school in Dehradun has terminated a physics teacher following allegations of repeated harassment and molestation by a Class 11 student, though police are yet to receive a formal complaint in the matter.The incident came to light earlier this month when the student’s family lodged a complaint with the school on Oct 15, alleging that the teacher had harassed and molested the girl several times in the preceding weeks.The principal said the school’s internal committee began an inquiry as soon as the complaint was received, and the teacher was immediately asked to leave the premises. “Even though there wasn’t any conclusive evidence, we took the complaint seriously and terminated the teacher the very next day,” the principal said, adding that the student was assured of all possible assistance.On Friday, the family returned to the school, alleging that the matter had not been handled properly and demanding stricter action. They also claimed that other students had faced similar issues which the school neglected. Police were called to defuse the situation.“We did take action immediately,” the principal said.SP (city) Shekhar Suyal said no formal police complaint had been filed so far. “As soon as they approach us, we will do the needful,” he said.Stay updated with the latest Dehradun news.
