Akbaruddin raises waqf, haj issues in assembly
Akbaruddin Owaisi flags Waqf property encroachments, low minority welfare spending, and seeks updates on Telangana Haj House projects and airfare aid.
Hyderabad: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi alleged that Waqf Board properties were being encroached upon and that the state govt was failing to protect them. He said that although the govt had allocated ₹3,000 crore to the Minority Welfare Department in the budget, only ₹500 crore had been spent so far. He also questioned the status of chief minister A Revanth Reddy’s promise to haj pilgrims that the govt would provide ₹10,000 towards differential airfare to each pilgrim returning from the pilgrimage.The MLA further alleged that the govt had not convened a meeting of the Telangana Waqf Board since the new Waqf Act came into force last year, while continuing with the existing Waqf Board chairperson.Speaking during Question Hour in the assembly on Thursday, Akbaruddin sought details of the proposed Haj House at Mamidipally near Shamshabad airport and the plans for the incomplete Haj building at Nampally. He also urged the govt to convene a meeting with minority MLAs to discuss various issues. The suggestion was accepted by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka.Minority welfare minister Mohd Azharuddin said the govt was planning to construct a Haj House on two acres at Mamidipally in Balapur mandal. He said a team of officials had visited Bengaluru to study the Haj House there.The minister said the govt had allocated ₹86 crore for the project and appointed an architect for the building.
