Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has arrested a police sub-inspector (SI) in connection with a five-year-old case involving alleged forgery of vehicle registration number and liquor smuggling. The EOU took over the investigation on the orders of Patna high court. SI Rajendra Ram is currently posted at Baghaila police station in Rohtas. The case dates back to June 19, 2020, when Sidhwalia police in Gopalganj seized an SUV carrying around 340 litres of liquor. A case was registered under Sections 30(a) and 41(1) of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2018, and SI Rajendra Ram was made the investigating officer (IO).The high court ordered an investigation following a petition filed by Radheshyam Singh of Rohtas. The probe found that the seized vehicle had a tampered registration plate, while its engine and chassis numbers matched those of a vehicle bearing registration number JH01CJ-7840, which had been reported stolen in a case registered at Dinara police station in Dec 2019. Despite the discrepancies, the vehicle was subsequently auctioned, allegedly depriving Singh of his claim over the vehicle.Rajendra, who was the IO in the Sidhwalia case, was arrested by the EOU on Oct 8 and remanded in judicial custody. Earlier, the EOU had arrested Kanhaiya Lal, a former clerk, and Haider Ali Ansari, a data entry operator at the district transport office (DTO), in connection with the case. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Patna | Silver Rate in Patna | Bank Holidays in Patna | Public Holidays in Patna | Patna AQI | Weather in Patna | Petrol Price in Patna | Diesel Price in Patna | CNG Price in Patna | LPG Price in PatnaStay updated with the latest Patna news.
