Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has begun converting metal scrap from its workshops and yards into artwork, with sculptures being made for display at major stations, offices and other railway premises across the zone.Officials said the initiative aims to promote the reuse of discarded materials while improving the appearance of railway spaces used by passengers and staff. Old metal parts, worn-out components and other unusable workshop materials are being collected, sorted and shaped into decorative installations by skilled workers and artists associated with railway units.“Many small pieces of scrap remain idle after e-auction. These pieces are being used to create beautiful artworks. Major stations such as Puri, Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road, along with other railway premises, will get scrap-based sculpture installations,” an ECoR spokesperson said. One such sculpture has already been completed at Sambalpur station and opened for public viewing.Several other pieces are being prepared at the carriage repair workshop at Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar. Completed installations at the workshop include a large guitar and a small replica of an Air Force chopper, both fabricated from discarded metal parts. These sculptures have been installed within the workshop area and have drawn attention for their creative use of materials that would otherwise have been disposed of as waste. The routine overhauling yard at Sarla station has also installed a sculpture made from scrap. A miniature model of an old railway engine has been created from scrap and installed at Kantabanji station.ECoR is also preparing a scrap-metal sculpture for display at its headquarters in Bhubaneswar. Officials said the artwork will reflect the railway’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and the beautification of public infrastructure. The project is part of a broader effort to encourage environmentally responsible practices within railway establishments. By converting scrap into creative exhibits, the zone hopes to reduce waste, support recycling and showcase the craftsmanship of railway personnel.More stations and offices may be covered under the initiative in the coming months, depending on the availability of scrap and suitable display locations. The installations are expected to beautify railway premises and create awareness among passengers, the spokesperson said. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Bhubaneswar | Silver Rate in Bhubaneswar | Bank Holidays in Bhubaneswar | Public Holidays in Bhubaneswar | Petrol Price in Bhubaneswar | Diesel Price in Bhubaneswar | CNG Price in Bhubaneswar | LPG Price in BhubaneswarStay updated with the latest Bhubaneswar news.
