CHENNAI: A car plunged into a sinkhole after a section of Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) caved in near Tidel Park on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic on the busy stretch. The two occupants escaped unhurt. The incident occurred close to an underground Metro construction site near Tidel Park. The white car was travelling along OMR near Thiruvanmiyur MRTS when a portion of the road near the median suddenly caved in, trapping one of its front tyres. A video showed an MTC bus attempting to squeeze past the car and a Metro barricade, after which the car plunged into the sinkhole and landed upside down.Work is under way to remove the car and fill the sinkhole. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials are yet to confirm whether the underground Metro work is linked to the road collapse. Police sources, however, said underground utilities, including Metro Water pipelines, had been relocated ahead of the Metro work and ruled out a rupture in water pipelines as a possible cause of the cave-in.You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Chennai | Silver Rate in Chennai | Bank Holidays in Chennai | Public Holidays in Chennai | Chennai AQI | Weather in Chennai | Petrol Price in Chennai | Diesel Price in Chennai | CNG Price in Chennai | LPG Price in ChennaiStay updated with the latest Chennai news.
