Andrea Canning reports on the murder of Dee Warner in “The Day Dee Disappeared” | Dateline
Watch the Dateline episode “The Day Dee Disappeared” about the 2021 murder of Dee Warner in Lenawee County, Michigan.
The life of a farmer is routine. Plant the seeds. Fertilize the soil. Harvest the crops. For 52-year-old Dee Warner, a sixth-generation farmer, that rhythm ran deep. Routine was a part of other aspects of her life too, including her standing Sunday morning breakfast date with her daughter Rikkell. But on April 25, 2021, when Rikkell arrived to meet her mother, Dee was nowhere to be found. Rikkell called her siblings to check if they had heard from her, but no one had. Then they called Dee’s husband, Dale. He said the last time he saw her was earlier that morning when she was asleep on the couch. Dee’s brother Gregg Hardy wasn’t worried, not at first. His sister often took a day or two away to think. But when his calls to Dee went straight to voicemail, he knew something wasn’t right. Dee always took Gregg’s calls or called right back. So Gregg and his wife, Shelley, volunteered to help search Dee’s property themselves. That’s when they grew even more concerned. Both of Dee’s cars were at the house. So where was Dee? It would take years to get an answer to that question. And the way that answer was discovered was just devastating.
