Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has raised concerns about the growing use of frontier AI models by companies handling sensitive information. Quoting Fields Medalist Terence Tao, Sridhar Vembu shared an X (formerly Twitter) post that said companies with critical know-how, intellectual property and trade secrets should be careful about trusting their information with frontier AI labs. The mathematician warned that AI could change how researchers share ideas. Tao said, "The incentives may now be pointing in the direction of no longer sharing any promising research directions with the broader community, which would reverse centuries of traditions of open science and do serious long-term damage to the future of the field".Sridhar Vembu raises AI data security concernsSridhar Vembu said companies with valuable intellectual property and trade secrets should be cautious about putting their information into frontier AI systems. "This is quite serious and it is not just mathematicians and scientists," Vembu wrote.He argued that the concern could apply to companies across industries that have sensitive information they do not want to expose outside their organisations.In the post, Vembu also highlighted the pharmaceutical industry as an example.
