Guri Chahal rape case: Survivor opposes police cancellation report

MOHALI: The rape survivor in the high-profile case involving Guri Chahal has opposed the cancellation report filed by the police, alleging that she was not contacted during the investigation despite directions from the court.The survivor appeared before the Mohali court on Saturday along with her counsel, advocate H.S. Dhanoa, and recorded her statement.During the proceedings, she expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation and told the court that she had full faith in the law and the judicial system and would pursue the matter through legal means.According to Dhanoa, an FIR was registered at Sohana police station on May 1, 2026. He said the police subsequently filed an application seeking cancellation of the case before the court on July 24.Dhanoa alleged that during the proceedings, the court had directed Mohali police officials to produce the survivor before it.However, he alleged that the police did not contact her regarding the court's direction, following which she appeared in court herself along with her lawyers.The counsel said the survivor recorded her statement before the court and opposed the police cancellation report. She reportedly told the court that she was not satisfied with the investigation and wanted to pursue the matter in accordance with the law.Dhanoa said the survivor had urged the court to consider all the facts and circumstances of the case, along with the manner in which the investigation was conducted, before taking a decision on the cancellation report.He added that he had not yet received the complete set of documents relating to the cancellation report submitted by the police.
