UTTARKASHI: Following heavy rainfall and snowfall in the high-altitude Himalayan region on September 26 and 27, the Gangotri National Park administration has suspended entry into the park area until further orders, citing the safety of tourists and trekkers.Mayank Garg, Deputy Director of Gangotri National Park, told TOI that the heavy rain and snow have made various trekking routes within the park—including Gangotri-Gaumukh-Tapovan, Gartang Gali, and Kedartal—hazardous; the paths have sustained damage in several places and are currently being repaired. The park is expected to reopen to tourists and trekkers within two to three days once all routes are restored.Entry into the park area will remain prohibited until further notice to ensure the safety of tourists and trekkers.Meanwhile, Manoj Rawat, Secretary of the Uttarkashi Trekking Association, expressed concern over the sudden closure of trekking routes. He noted that tourists are facing inconvenience, as many have made advance bookings, and trekking companies have already arranged for rations, equipment, and other essential supplies. He argued that the park administration should not impose restrictions on the safer, easier routes.Stay updated with the latest Dehradun news.
