Salem Railway Division partners with Blinkit for quick delivery of essential items to passengers

SALEM: In a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, the Salem division of Southern Railway has awarded a contract to quick-commerce platform Blinkit to facilitate rapid delivery of essential items at major railway stations in the division. The arrangement is designed to assist passengers who may require urgent necessities such as mobile chargers, electronic accessories, personal care products, medicines and refreshments while travelling. Under the new system, passengers can place orders through the Blinkit app while approaching a participating station and receive the items at designated delivery points on railway platforms or near station entrances during scheduled train halts. The service is expected to address a long-standing challenge faced by travellers who are unable to buy essential items during short stoppages. By integrating hyper-local quick-commerce logistics with railway operations, the initiative seeks to provide seamless access to critical products without disrupting passengers’ travel plans, according to railway officials. They said the partnership could serve as a model for similar collaborations across the country as Railways explores innovative public-private partnerships to improve passenger amenities and generate additional non-fare revenue.A senior railway official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told TOI, “This collaboration represents a major step towards modernising passenger services and station infrastructure. By leveraging quick-commerce logistics, we aim to ensure that travellers can conveniently access essential items during their journey without compromising their schedule or safety.”You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Salem | Silver Rate in Salem | Bank Holidays in Salem | Public Holidays in Salem | Salem AQI | Weather in SalemStay updated with the latest Salem news.
