OBC creamy layer status: Supreme Court agrees to hear Centre's plea against parents' income-only criteria

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear the Centre's plea challenging the retrospective application of its ruling that parents' income cannot be the sole criterion for determining the creamy layer among Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates.Also read: Govt seeks 2 years to frame creamy layer criteria for PSU, private staff kidsThe ruling had held that the status and category of a parent's job must also be considered, along with the Income/Wealth Test, while determining whether a candidate should be excluded from OBC reservation.The matter concerns the criteria used to determine the creamy layer, which identifies relatively advanced sections among OBCs who are excluded from the benefits of reservation.More details awaited.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
