King Charles’ royal soldiers honor Dolly with ‘9 to 5’ performance

( NewsNation ) — King Charles’ soldiers honored Dolly Parton with a performance of her hit song “9 to 5” in front of Buckingham Palace.

The country music legend died Tuesday at the age of 80, after what was described as a brief battle with cancer .

The following morning, the royal family shared a video on Instagram of the Band of the Coldstream Guards playing the 1980 classic during the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

“Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many – including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library,” the caption reads.

Parton’s Imagination Library is a global program that sends free books to preschool-age children each month to foster a love of reading. Parton started the program to honor her father, who never learned to read or write, and to help children growing up in poverty as she had.

Following the “Jolene” singer’s death, tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, celebrities and fans who have celebrated her legacy .

In 1977, Parton appeared at the Royal Variety Performance for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, meeting the late monarch, who she described as very warm and sweet.

After turning down an invitation for tea from Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, because she was busy promoting an album, Parton invited the princess, Prince William and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, to visit her Dollywood theme park , though it does not appear they took her up on the offer.

In 2025, she told HuffPost of plans to meet the royals, citing the royal family’s involvement with the Imagination Library.
